In 2022 the Duchy set its target to be net zero for Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2028 and net zero across Scope 3 by 2050.
Reducing emissions across the Duchy
Following a reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 31% since 2022, we are targeting innovative technology for heating heritage spaces to ensure we have done everything within our control to reduce our emissions currently at 109 tCO₂e.
In the financial year to 2026 we have refined our Scope 3 data collection and sequestration calculations and will be reviewing our targets.
Our largest Scope 3 emissions are from downstream leased assets, with a mixed portfolio of farms including dairy and livestock farms.
The Duchy has been working with its tenants to calculate the farm emissions and a third of our tenant farms are also on the Soil Association Exchange scheme. This will give us key information on soil health, biodiversity, water and the farms impact on the wider community as well as carbon and sequestration.

The knowledge gained from our tenants and the soil association alongside our land use framework and habitat creation will allow us to model positive changes and refine our net zero target.
The Duchy integrates environmental responsibility into every decision it makes, helping to reduce our impact and ensuring we operate with integrity.
Sustainable practices run through our supply chain whether its sourcing materials for restoration projects or choosing office supplies. We work with partners who share our values, strengthening our approach and widening our impact.
Ongoing investment in environmental projects drives continued improvement and supports our long-term goals.
