Founded in the 13th century, the Duchy of Lancaster is a private estate held in trust for the Sovereign and their successors. Managing a diverse portfolio across England and Wales, the Duchy is committed to responsible and sustainable land ownership.

The Duchy Council

Guided by the experience and insight of the Duchy Council, the Duchy aims to deliver sustainable financial returns to His Majesty the King whilst leading with exemplary social and environmental stewardship. The Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster is responsible to His Majesty for the administration of the Duchy which is managed on the Chancellor’s behalf by the Duchy Council and a full time executive team.

Committees

In addition to its five annual meetings, the Council has appointed the following formal committees to ensure robust oversight, transparency, effective governance and sustainability across all areas of its operations. Further information can be found in the Duchy’s Annual Report and Accounts.

Report and Accounts

The Duchy publishes an Annual Report and Accounts which is independently audited, presented to both the Houses of Parliament, and available to view on the Duchy website. The report is prepared under directions from HM Treasury and complies with relevant UK legislation and regulatory standards.
