Alongside the responsible stewardship of its land and property portfolio, the Duchy of Lancaster supports three independent registered charities that benefit local communities and help preserve our heritage assets.
This charity focuses on the maintenance and preservation for the public benefit of the Duchy’s heritage assets, such as Lancaster Castle, The Savoy Chapel and Tutbury Castle.
The Duchy of Lancaster Benevolent Fund
This charity makes grants to a wide range of grassroots causes, from foodbanks and community hubs to veteran support organisations and environmental projects, primarily in the North of England.
The Duke of Lancaster Housing Trust
This charity provides high quality housing to local people at affordable rents within or close to the Duchy’s estates, sustaining rural communities and helping people to live and working locally.
The accounts of each of these charities are published separately and are available from the Charity Commission and from the Duchy Office.
On the instruction of His Majesty, Bona Vacantia is transferred to The Duke of Lancaster’s Foundation.
