Duchy supports Greater Manchester church renovation project

The Duchy of Lancaster Benevolent Fund has donated to a campaign to help renovate a church in the village of Hopwood, Greater Manchester.

Essential repair work will begin in January after St John Evangelist Church raised £125,000 to kick-start a major repairs and renovation project.

Works will take approximately 12 weeks and will include the re-leading of the windows and re-pointing of the external walls.

The Rev Matthew Carlisle said: “It has been a great effort from many people to make this restoration and repair work possible. I would like to thank the Diocese of Manchester for a grant and loan we received and also the Duchy of Lancaster Benevolent Fund for its support.”

Viridor Credits Environmental Company also made a substantial donation to the project through the Landfill Communities Fund.

St John Evangelist Church is widely used by local groups and the works are essential to sustain the building as a place of worship and community space.
