The Duchy launches Scalby Lodge
The existing farm buildings at Scalby Lodge were redeveloped and new cottages constructed by the Duchy of Lancaster in 2012, at a cost of around £3 million. The result is a stunning development of self-catering holiday properties ranging from a one bedroomed cottage through to a five bedroomed spacious barn, perfect for family celebrations.
Local people attended the launch celebrations on Thursday 23rd May, alongside representatives from the Duchy of Lancaster, Welcome to Yorkshire and local companies who worked on the redevelopment of the site. Guests were all given an exclusive tour of the properties and treated to a selection locally sourced refreshments supplied by Duchy tenant; Daisy Tea Rooms in Scalby, near Scarborough.
The properties constructed under the Duchy’s own design code, all feature traditional and locally-sourced building materials such as pantiles, stone walls and timber framed windows and doors. The design also incorporates energy efficient features to ensure long term sustainability of the site, including under-floor heating provided from ground source heat pumps.
Scalby Lodge has impressive landscaped gardens and direct access to the famous Cleveland Way, a perfect haven for both walkers and bird watchers alike.
Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire said: “The investment which the Duchy of Lancaster has made here at Scalby Lodge to create, what can only be described as stunning holiday accommodation, will make a real impact on the local area.
“We have amazing natural attractions here on the North Yorkshire coast and Scalby Lodge is adding a real wow factor to the accommodation we can offer. We look forward to welcoming more visitors to the region.”
Paul Clarke, CEO of the Duchy of Lancaster added: “We have seen a consistently strong desire for high quality holiday lets in the area. We are confident our investment in Scalby Lodge will provide a boost to the local rural economy and employment opportunities through an increase in visitors to this dramatic coastal location.”
The properties at Scalby Lodge are available to rent exclusively through English Country Cottages.
