Diamond Jubilee Window

Her Majesty, as Duke of Lancaster, attended a service of dedication of the Diamond Jubilee Window at The Queen’s Chapel of The Savoy in November 2012.

A competition to design the six pane window was launched and the winner selected by The Queen herself. A design offered by Douglas Hogg, a stained glass artist from Gordon in Berwickshire, was chosen. Speaking of the desgin Douglas said: ‘My chosen theme embraces continuity, heritage and inheritance by reflecting the key changes seen in the Monarchy throughout the 60 years of our Queen’s reign. It includes The Queen’s Arms, symbols for the Church of England, the Armed Forces and the Commonwealth, as well as a reference to Her Majesty’s fondness of horse-riding and dogs.’

The Queen’s own words, first spoke in Her 21st birthday speech and repeated in Her Jubilee speech are included in the design of the window: ‘I declare before you all that my whole life, whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service.’
