Scalby Lodge shortlisted for White Rose Award

The Duchy of Lancaster’s Scalby Lodge Holiday Cottages have been shortlisted for the White Rose Awards 2014.

Scalby Lodge has been nominated in the Self Catering category, less than two years after the Duchy invested £3million to renovate nine existing farm buildings and build two new luxury cottages.

The White Rose Awards, organised by Welcome to Yorkshire, celebrate tourism excellence across the region.

Jayne Pickup, general manager at Scalby Lodge Holiday Cottages, said: “To be shortlisted for this award having been open for little over a year is a fantastic achievement. It also recognises the Duchy’s decision to invest in the estate, creating a first-class holiday destination which draws visitors from across the UK.

“Our guests enjoy excellent accommodation and facilities, combined with some of the most stunning scenery the British Isles have to offer. We are proud to be nominated for this award and look forward to the finals later this year.”

Scalby Lodge is set in a rural location on the edge of the North York Moors National Park and to the South of Whitby. It was part of a working farm until 2003.

The self-catering properties, constructed under the Duchy’s own design code, all feature traditional and locally-sourced building materials such as pantiles, stone walls and timber framed windows and doors. The design also incorporates energy efficient features to ensure long-term sustainability of the site, including underfloor heating provided from ground source heat pumps.

The properties at Scalby Lodge are available to rent exclusively through English Country Cottages at www.english-country-cottages.co.uk

The White Rose Awards 2014 will take place later this year at a venue to be confirmed.
